What Decides the Price of a Home Lift

Price is the first question every villa owner asks. The honest answer is that there is no single figure.

Here is what moves the price, so you know what to ask for when you compare quotes.

Number of floors

Each extra floor adds a stop, a door and a longer run.

A lift between two floors costs differently from one serving three or four.

Shaft readiness

Is the villa still being built, or already finished?

In a new build, the shaft is planned with the structure. In an existing villa, we may need to open the ceiling or change the stairs. That difference shows in the price, and it can be large.

Type of lift

The type changes the whole installation.

  • Hydraulic lifts rely on a pump and oil.
  • Traction (electric) lifts rely on a machine and cables.
  • No-pit lifts sit on the finished floor.
  • Panoramic lifts add a glass frame.

Each type has its own requirements. Read home lift types and what suits a villa to see the differences.

Capacity and size

A lift for two people differs from one that takes a wheelchair or several passengers. A bigger cabin needs a bigger machine and a stronger frame.

Cabin finish and doors

You see the cabin every day. Wood, marble, glass, steel and lighting all come at different costs.

Doors matter too. An automatic door is not the same as a semi-automatic one, and a glass door is not the same as a steel one.

Power and installation

The machine and the load decide the electrical supply you need. The site may need new wiring or its own panel. Hard access to the site also affects the installation work.

Warranty and maintenance

Ask what the warranty covers, when it starts and what it leaves out. Ask about the annual maintenance contract and what it includes. A lower quote with no maintenance can cost you more later.

What to ask for in a quote

  • Itemised lines in writing, not one total.
  • Lift type, load and number of stops.
  • Cabin and door specification.
  • What the installation includes and what it excludes.
  • Warranty and maintenance terms.

This is why we set a price after a site visit, not before. Any number given without someone seeing the space is a guess.
